GREEN ACTIVISTS OF LOS ANGELES CALL ON CATHOLICOS OF ALL ARMENIANS TO SUPPORT THE FIGHT FOR PRESERVATION OF ARMENIA'S NATURE

    Thursday, April 5, 19:21

Green activists of Los Angeles, who support Save Teghout movement, have
addressed an open letter to Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

In particular, the letter says that the deposits and natural
resources are mercilessly used in Armenia today, and serious damage
is being inflicted to the nature and environment. This is the result
of unfair social policy, which directly affects the health of the
future generations. Today the Armenian Apostolic Church headed by
Catholicos of All Armenians should support the fair fight for the
nature of Armenia, the letter says.

To recall, the hearings on the project on development of the Teghout
copper-molybdenum deposit were held in Los Angeles on March 11.

Representatives of the Armenian community of the United States took
    part in the environmental seminar.

The seminar participants supported the initiative for the protection
of Teghout forest. They bought T-shirts with the Teghout logo. The
proceed from the sale of the T-shirts will be spent on technical
    facilities for Armenia's environmentalists.

The project on development of the Teghout copper-molybdenum deposit was
approved by the Armenian Government in Nov 2007. The environmentalists
have repeatedly said that the environmental risks in the project
submitted for consideration of the Government were significantly
reduced. The experts also say that in chase of money the activities
of the large companies run counter to the country's legislation and
    international conventions.
