Armenia's Independence Day should be observed not on September 21 but
May 28, as this is the day of restoration of Armenian state, its
recreation, political analyst Sergey Shakaryants said at a news
    conference today.

September 21 is too justified with its significance as one of the
important days in Armenia's history, but it is not the day of
    recreation.

`Declaration of September 21 as Independence Day was the wish of a
group of people to increase their role in the history. While the
events of 1918 have reinforced the right of our nation on a territory
and this right was acquired as a result of very cruel war which was to
solve the issue of existence of the nation,' the speaker said.

The analyst thinks the significance of holidays should be referred to
and the justice should be restored.

`It was not only a historic victory but we had psychological and moral
victory in Sardarapat, Karakilisa, Aparan,' Shakaryants said.

According to him, the achievements of 1918 were much weightier -
`people believed that with joint forces they would break the
    ottomans.'

`Armenian people were not guilty that certain circles were dividing
the territories of Russian empire. The history shows that the
competition of big powers is full of surprises for small peoples,' he
said referring to why the first republic lasted for so short period.

In such conditions it is necessary to be strong and not rely on
foreign forces but only on the own ones.
