BEIRUT. - Sculptures have become rare in Lebanon these days. Only one
out of 10 exhibitions displays sculptures, Lebanese newspaper The
    Daily Star reports.

This month Eskis Gallery organized an exhibition of known Armenian
architect Mkrtich Mazmanyan. During the exhibition entitled `The
Ladies of Beirut' semi-abstract bronze sculptures of female will be
displayed. The artist is known as a professional of public monuments
and portraits. In this exhibition 20 pieces of his work are presented.
He calls his style `Shaped abstraction'. The artist studied sculpture
in Armenia before moving to Lebanon 20 years ago. According to him, he
grew up in a home full of women. Then he raised three daughters.

`For me woman or mother does anything. They are more productive than
men. If women were to disappear from the world then there would be no
    progress,' the artist said.
