    Yerevan, July 17, ARMENPRESS: The Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
    hosted the Prefect of the Eastern Church Congregation and the president
    of the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri. As the
    President's press office informed "Armenpress", the president welcomed
    the guest and noted with satisfaction that the cooperation between
    Armenia and Vatican, as well as the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin
    and the Holy See is in a high level due to the mutual visits and
    active political dialogue.

    Serzh Sargsyan asked Cardinal Leonardo Sandri to send his best wishes
    to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. To the President's, word the meeting
    with His Holiness held last year, was a good opportunity to discuss
    the agenda and prospects of the development of the relations between
    Armenia and Vatican. Bilateral historical connections, rich cultural
    and spiritual heritage are the best prerequisites for the continuous
    cooperation. The President noted that Armenia and the Armenians, who
    have more than millennial Christian traditions, highly appreciate the
    role of the Holy See in the spreading of Christianity in the world,
    as well as in the establishment of peace and mutual understanding,
    in the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

    The interlocutors were unanimous that the process of the long-term
    bilateral relations is not limited with the 20th anniversary of
    the diplomatic relations between Armenia and Vatican; moreover,
    it successfully develops and grows year by year.

    Cardinal Leonardo Sandri sent the best wishes of His Holiness Pope
    Benedict XVI to the President Serzh Sargsyan, to Armenia and its
    people. The Prefect of the Eastern Church Congregation and the
    president of the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Cardinal Leonardo
    Sandri noted that Armenia is a country seeking understanding and
    peace with people all over the world. He outlined that the Holy See
    is admired with the history of the first Christian state and its
    faithfulness to the Christian roots for centuries.
