Armenia should recognize Nagorno-Karabakh independence, political analyst says

Armenia will do a right thing if it recognizes the independence of
Nagorno-Karabakh in case of inadequate response of the international
community to the extradition of murderer of Armenian officer Ramil
Safarov, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

`If the international community fails to respond to the extradition of
Safarov and not apply sanctions against Hungary and Azerbaijan, the
next thing Armenia will do should be recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic with its current borders,' the political analyst said
    speaking to Tert.am.

He said Safarov's extradition will have a direct impact on the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and stressed the necessity of
meeting between Armenia's Foreign Minister and OSCE Minsk Group
co-chairs and extraordinary sitting of the Armenian parliament.

`With this step Azerbaijan gave Armenia an opportunity to apply
stricter stance in the talks, or even suspend negotiations until
Safarov is free,' he said. `Another way is to suspend the talks and
start process on international recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh
    Republic.'

Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said Azerbaijani behavior is agreed with mild
stance of both West and Russia.
`For many years Azerbaijan was one of the main threats to regional
security but neither West nor Russia gave appropriate assessments
which afforded the official Baku an opportunity to consider that it
will remain unpunished if continues its policy aimed at deterioration
    of the situation,' he stressed.

The political analyst says Russia is keeping criminal silence which
may be assessed a consent with what has happened.
`Hungarian authorities have entered into criminal transaction with
    Azerbaijani leadership,' he said.

`Naturally Safarov will not be handed but sanctions should be applied
against Azerbaijan and Hungary,' he stressed.
