liturgy lasted about three hours. The attendants were distributed
holy wafers, after which a prayer was cited in the memory of the
victims from Van earthquake and Syria events.

In order to avoid incidents, the liturgy was controlled by 60 policemen
and 200 security officers. Besides, a police helicopter was flying
around the area during the entire process of the liturgy. Then, during
the performance of "Akunk" Armenian dance ensemble the raised Armenian
flag arouse short-term discontent of many attendants of the event.

After the restoration the Armenian Cathedral of the Holy Cross in
Akhtamar reopened in 2007. One of the masterpieces of the Armenian
architecture has got a status of a museum. Once a year a liturgy is
permitted to be held in the church on Sunday preceding the Khachverats
