Azerbaijan summons Russian ambassador over anti-Ramil Safarov demonstration

    19 September 2012 [10:07] - TODAY.AZ

Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry has summoned the Russian ambassador to
express its protest over a demonstration against Ramil Safarov and
remarks by State Duma Member Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
Azeri deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov handed a note of protest
    to Vladimir Dorokhin.

The September 14 demonstration in the Russian capital was authorized
by Moscow Mayor`s Office and organized by the Russian-Armenian Union.
Demonstrators protested against the pardoning of Azerbaijani army
officer Ramil Safarov. Zhirinovsky, who attend the event, made
anti-Azerbaijani remarks, inciting hatred, terror and violence against
    the Azerbaijan people.
Khalafov told the Russian ambassador that Zhirinovsky`s `irresponsible
call' cast a shadow on `cooperative and friendly relations between the
    two countries'.

The deputy FM also described the incident as `a blow to Russia`s
mediation mission in the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group'.
Khalafov expressed hope Zhirinovsky`s `irresponsible remarks' would be
treated adequately by the Russian authorities.
