THE EXISTENCE OF THE SOLE ARMENIAN VILLAGE IN TURKEY IS ENDANGERED

    11:37, 20 November, 2012

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The existence of the sole Armenian
village Vakf (near Musa Dagh) in Turkey, as a separate administrative
unit is endangered after the ratification of a bill regarding the
unification of the villages, where the number of residents is less
    than 500.

As reports "Armenpress" citing Armenian newspaper of Istanbul "Agos",
in this respect the Chairman of the Fund of the St. Theotokos'
Cathedral Cem Capar expressed the anxiety of the residents of the
Armenian village to the Minister of Justice of Turkey Sadullah Ergin.

In the application Cem Capar mentioned that after the ratification of
the bill the demography of the Vakf will undergo mutations. Currently
only Armenians live in that village. According to him it is supposed
that Vakf will lose the status of village.

In accordance with the new bill those villages that have less than 500
residents are deprived of the right to elect the head of the community
and must be attached to the larger territorial units. Presently the
number of the residents of Vakf equals to 135 men.
