    DOES TSARUKYAN'S RELATIVE REFUTE HIM?
    HAKOB BADALYAN

    Story from Lragir.am News:
    http://www.lragir.am/index.php/eng/0/comments/view/28295

Prosperous Armenia Party Leader's in-law, the president of the
National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan told RFL/RL that he didn't think
about the possibility of Gagik Tsarukyan's nomination for president
as the "joint candidate" of the opposition.

"He has not decided yet, if he decided, we would know about it. There
are rumors about his possible nomination but we have no specific
    information," said Hovik Abrahamyan.

Actually, Tsarukyan's relative Abrahamyan refutes Tsarukyan's statement
on having decided on his nomination. The PAP leader stated so a few
days ago in his "exclusive" interview with one of the news sites.

On the other hand, Tsarukyan does not really seem to have made any
decision. His spokesman has stated a few days ago that Tsarukyan
will announce his decision in the period of December 1-5. Today is
December 5 and Tsarukyan has not yet said anything. Perhaps, he will
speak by the end of the day, or perhaps Hovik Abrahamyan has advised
him not to speak or rather not to discuss the decision with him.

By saying that if Tsarukyan decided, he would know about it,
Abrahamyan possibly hints that the decision should not be declared
without consulting him. Abrahamyan also recalls that relationship
and politics are different things and he has no obligations to the
PAP and will do everything for Serzh Sargsyan's victory.

Gagik Tsarukyan is currently in Brussels. As Vartan Oskanian said,
he will get acquainted with the positions of European forces and
leadership, and will present to them the stances of his party.

But if those in Brussels hear what Abrahamyan says here, Tsarukyan's
visit will fail. With his statement, Abrahamyan hints that the PAP
leader is not an independent political figure and before making his
plans known to the public he always presents them to the Republican
Party or at least to Hovik Abrahamyan.

Or maybe Abrahamyan pursues a far-reaching goal hinting that those
in Brussels need to call him after their meeting with Tsarukyan to
ask whether Abrahamyan knows about what Tsarukyan told them. If they
call from Brussels, it will be a significant event in Abrahamyan's
political career. People make huge effort to receive a call from
Brussels but they do not, while Abrahamyan, without using much brains
(as he confessed), may ensure the call.
