Germany is Armenia's major trade partner in EU; prime minister says
YEREVAN, December 7. / ARKA /. Germany is the main trade partner of
Armenia in the European Union, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said in
his speech at the two-day Armenian-German business forum in the office
of the German Commerzbank in Frankfurt.
"Germany has always supported Armenia's economic development, endorsed
our economic and political reforms. Therefore, I would like to express
my gratitude to the government of Germany for long financial and
technical assistance, which in terms of volume and efficiency is the
largest in the EU", Sargsyan was quoted as saying by the government
press service.
The forum was attended by Director of the Department of Financial
Institutions of Commerzbank Pierre Fischer, as well as representatives
of Armenian and German companies operating in banking system, high
technology, and energy, agriculture and mining industries.
The forum discussed development of bilateral business ties, joint
programs, as well as issues related to macro-economic situation in
Armenia and the European region.
According to Armenia's National Statistical Service, the trade
turnover between Armenia and Germany in January-October 2012 amounted
to $354.7 million, an increase of 7.4 percent compared to the same
period in 2011. It accounted for almost 8 percent in Armenia's overall
foreign trade. -
