The opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) held its
traditional march to mark Human Rights Day.

The participants marched from Freedom Square to the monument to
Alexander Myasnikyan to honor the memory of the March 1 victims. ANC
Chairman Levon Ter-Petrosyan did not participate in the rally.

About 500 participants in the march carried placards reading "Freedom
to Tigran Arakelyan", "Right is guarantee of life of dignity",
"Criminals must be jailed". The participants were crying out "Free,
independent Armenia!" "Serzh, go away!" "Independent Armenia without
    Serzh!"

Levon Zurabyan, ANC parliamentary group Chairman, read out
a statement. Before the participants reached Alexander Myasnikyan
Square, they handed the statement over to the PACE office in Armenia.

The first demand in the statement is the release of the ANC member
Tigran Arakelyan, who has been in prison for 16 months.

The second point indicates that Armenia does not respect citizens'
right to life, placing emphasis on the March 1 victims.

The third point says that Armenia's parliament does not "reflect
democracy," and the fourth indicates disrespect for the people's
right to elect their own authorities.

The statement ends in a call for "driving the dictator out of the
    country at the crucial moment."

Aram Manukyan, Board Chairman of the Armenian National Movement (ANM),
    made a speech.

Nikol Pashinyan, an ANC parliamentary group member, told journalists
that the symbol of Human Rights Day is the rule of law and respect
for Armenia's Constitution. In the context of violations of law,
he mentioned the son of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's brother.

According to media report, he shot at Khachatur Sukiasyan's brother,
causing his a leg injury, but was not prosecuted.

After laying flowers at the monument to Alexander Myasnikyan the
participants were to return to Freedom Square.
