John Heffern not to turn down proposal to be appointed U.S. Ambassador
    to Azerbaijan

    December 19, 2014 16:54

Yerevan/Mediamax/. At the farewell press conference today, U.S.
Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern told journalists that he will not
turn down the proposal to be appointed U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan
    if he receives it.

"I see no problems with regard to my being appointed U.S. Ambassador
to Azerbaijan and will welcome such an opportunity", he said.

The Ambassador noted it will be a challenge for him to get acquainted
with Azerbaijan's stance on NK conflict considering he already knows
    Armenia's position on it.

"Unfortunately I got no chance to visit Baku during my work in
Armenia, while, for example, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard
Morningstar paid a visit to Armenia, and we had useful meetings with
the Armenian President and the Foreign Minister. Morningstar invited
me to Baku, however, I did not manage to visit", said Heffern.

The U.S. Ambassador also noted that once he returns to the U.S. he
will work with Azerbaijan and will get to work at the Bureau of
European and Eurasian Affairs at U.S. Department of State.
