TURK JEWS CALL ON U.S. TO DELAY DISCUSSION OF RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

ISTANBUL, APRIL 26, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. The community of
Turk Jews addressed a letter to persons of influence of the American
Congress, demanding to delay the draft on the Armenian Genocide. In
the letter signed by chairmen of four big Jewish organizations
functioning in the U.S., including Tom Lantos, the Chairman of the
House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs as well, it is
said: "As Turk Jews, we believe in keeping and development of good
relations between Turkey and Israel what has an important meaning
for stability of the region."
According to Sabah, it is spoken in the letter about the difficulties
arisen in front of U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as
"about the new threats appeared in Iran and Syria." Stability of
the Turkey-Israel-U.S. three-sided relations is mentioned with a
special stress. In the letter authors' opinion, that stability is
"very important during the uneasy situation existing in Middle East."
At the end of the letter signed by Silvyo Ovadya, the Chairperson
of the Turk Jews community and Deputy Chairperson Lina Filiba,
the U.S. is called on to delay discussion of the 106th resolution
recognizing the Armenian Genocide which was put on the agenda of the
House of Representatives as "it puts U.S. interests under danger."
