CRU CHAIRMAN SAYS TER-PETROSIAN WILL NOT CONTEST ELECTION

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS: Chairman of almost defunct minor
Constitutional Right Union (CRU) party, Hrant Khachatrian, argued
today that ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosian would backpedal on his
announcement to contest the 2008 presidential election.
Khachatrian said Ter-Petrosian would join the race only after being
sure that some 70 percent of voters would support his presidential bid,
but according to Khachatrian this would never happen.
In sharp contrast to Khachatrian's arguments Hovhanes Hovhanesian,
chairman of Liberal Progressive party, which supports Ter-Petrosian's
presidential aspirations, said today no surprise developments are
expected in the presidential race because the main fight will be
between Ter-Petrosian and prime minister Serzh Sarkisian.
