ARMENIAN PEACEKEEPERS WILL BE LOCATED IN A NEW MILITARY BASE IN AFGHANISTAN

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS: The new detachment of Armenian armed
forces consisting of 61 people on August 2 will leave for Afghanistan.
Armenpress was informed about this by the commander of Armenian armed
forces' peacekeeping brigade Arthur Simonyan. He also informed that
before that Armenian peacekeepers held trainings in Germany. "As
previous years they will not be located in Kunduz or Mazari Sharif,
this year they will be located in a new military base in Maikspann. In
Mazari Sharif we will not hold mission any more" informed Simonyan.
Since the February of 2010 detachment of Armenian armed forces has
been included in the staff of northern Command of ISAF which under
the command of Federal Republic of Germany. It holds security issues
of airport of Kunduz city. Before leaving for Afghanistan Armenian
detachment held pre-location trainings for 3-4 weeks in Germany. In
2001 the number of Armenian peacekeepers in Afghanistan was increased
to 121 40 of which held their mission in Kunduz city and 81defended
the airport of Mazari Sharif. Both detachments operate in the staff of
German Command. Five more Armenian officers have trainings in Kunduz
in order to serve in Afghan Army as instructors.
