The upcoming presidential election of 2013 will end in victory of
Serzh Sargsyan, incumbent president, leader of the ruling Republican
Party of Armenia. Alexey Vlasov, Analytical Center for the Study of
the post -Soviet Caspian Basin, told ArmInfo forecasting the most
probable outcome of the February election.
"Such situation and outcome has no alternative. Although the Armenian
opposition's rating shows upward trends, it will not rise high enough
to compete with the incumbent authorities," Vlasov said.
As for the Karabakh peace process in 2012, the political expert said
that the current year has become a standstill in the peace process. He
thinks that Yerevan and Baku are still not ready for a compromise. As
of the OSCE Misnk Group Co-Chairs, Vlasov said, they are still not
ready to offer other solutions, except those based on the Madrid
principles.
Commenting on the recent impulses in the Russian-Azerbaijani
relations, Vlasov said that there is no frosting. He thinks that some
mass media create artificial negative information field to increase
tensions. Vlasov said that forces opposing the Moscow-Baku dialogue
speculate on the rumors that Russia aims to make Azerbaijan weaker.
"Generally, Russia is interested in stable presidential election in
Azerbaijan in 2013. In addition, I think that the wave of the Arab
spring will not reach the South Caucasus and Russia, because any
destabilization in the South Caucasus will direct affect the North
aucasus," the Russian political expert said.
