The deprivation of Prosperous Armenia party member Vartan Oskanian
of parliamentary immunity is not a show played between the ruling
Republican party and Prosperous Armenia but an attempt to twist
Gagik Tsarukyan's hands, director of Caucasus Institute Alexander
Iskandaryan told a news conference on Thursday.
"The claims that Tsarukyan knows all the scenarios beforehand
are false," Iskandaryan stressed, adding that the behavior of the
authorities is clear - the PAP may poll over 40%.
The political analyst said Oskanian's case is a political one. "It is
a selective justice. But there cannot be other way in the political
race," Iskandaryan said, adding that if Oskanian was in the rows of
Republican party, he would be "Mother Teresa."
The political analyst said political persecution against Oskanian is
addressed to Gagik Tsarukyan.
"There were such attempts during the parliamentary elections, but
at that time they were unbreakable. I can say the winner will be the
one with stronger nerves," Iskandaryan stressed.
He said in any case Republican party exerts serious pressures which
may make PAP oppose more.
"Oskanian should not be jailed. It will be a foreign political blast
which will harm than do good," the analyst said.
