    Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pardoned the Azerbaijani officer,
    Ramil Safarov, from serving a prison sentence after being extradited
    back from Hungary.


    Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev pardoned the Azerbaijani officer,
    Ramil Safarov, from serving a prison sentence.

    Safarov was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court of Budapest on
    April 13, 2006 for the murder of Gurgen Markarian. Today Safarov was
    extradited to Azerbaijan.

    In 2004, in Budapest, Safarov hacked the Armenian officer, Gurgen
    Margaryan. Both officers studied in Hungary English courses within the
    NATO "Partnership for Peace" program.

    After that Safarov made similar attempted of murder of another
    Armenian officer, what was prevented.

    At the trial, Safarov said that Armenian officers insulted the
    Azerbaijani flag and provoked him.

    Extradition of Safarov became possible as a result of agreements
    between Baku and Budapest, the details of which are not disclosed.
